How to Set Up Dolphin with a USB GameCube Controller
Dolphin is the best GameCube and Wii emulator. It runs Smash Bros. Melee, Wind Waker, and more in HD. A USB GameCube controller works perfectly with no adapter needed - just plug and play.
What You Need
A PC, Mac, or Linux machine, a USB GameCube controller, and Dolphin Emulator (free download).
Step-by-Step Setup
- Download Dolphin from dolphin-emu.org - get the latest beta for best compatibility
- Install and open Dolphin
- Plug your USB GameCube controller into any USB port
- Click Controllers in the main menu
- Under GameCube, set Port 1 to Standard Controller
- Click Configure and map your buttons - the analog sticks, triggers, and face buttons should all be detected
- Load your GameCube or Wii game and play
Tips
For Smash Bros. Melee, make sure your analog triggers are mapped correctly - they need the full analog range for shield mechanics. Dolphin can upscale GameCube games to HD and even 4K, so your games will look better than they ever did on the original hardware.
